Product Overview

A Panasonic relay built for the NPM placement platform and supplied as an SMT spare part for machines that are already in production. It takes the place of the relay already fitted to the machine, and because the NPM series covers a wide range of head and feeder configurations, the number printed on the original part is what identifies the correct replacement.

On a working line a relay is a small part next to the SMT components the machine places, yet losing one stops the machine just as effectively as losing a motor. We supply this relay as a single replacement as well as replenishment stock for EMS factories, repair workshops and SMT pick and place machine manufacturers that maintain Panasonic lines in house.

Machine Compatibility

• Specified for the NPM. This relay is built for Panasonic NPM placement machines rather than being a general-purpose relay that happens to fit the socket.
• Head and feeder configurations vary. The NPM series covers different head setups and feeder arrangements, so if your machine has been rebuilt or upgraded, give us the model and the position the relay serves.
• Other platforms use other numbers. Panasonic placement and insertion machines outside the NPM series carry their own spare-part numbers, and a relay that looks similar is not automatically interchangeable.
• More than one part per enquiry. We are also a solenoid valve supplier for these machines, so the relay and the valve and pneumatic parts around it can be quoted together instead of through separate orders.
• Long-lived platforms. NPM machines stay in production for years, so replacement parts for them are routine purchases rather than legacy special orders.

Replacement Timing

Relays are switching parts, and switching parts wear out. On a pick and place machine a tired relay usually announces itself in a few recognisable ways: a function that drops out and returns a moment later, an error that clears when the machine is restarted, or a subsystem that stops responding while everything around it looks normal. Moving the relay to another position is the quickest test — if the fault follows the part, the relay is the suspect.

That is why most maintenance teams keep one on the shelf. A spare already in the store costs far less than a machine that is standing still, and where planned maintenance windows are used, changing the relay on schedule keeps the timing of the stop in your hands rather than the machine's.

Installation Steps

1. Isolate the machine: power down and lock out the NPM before opening the panel or head cover.
2. Photograph the original relay in place, including the connector orientation and the wire order, so reassembly is not left to memory.
3. Remove the old part and compare it with the replacement — number, pin layout and connector type should agree before anything is fitted.
4. Seat the new relay by hand first, then secure it exactly the way the original was secured; forcing a relay into place can damage the socket.
5. Reconnect following your photograph and check that no wire is trapped, strained or crossed.
6. Restore power and run the function the relay serves through several cycles before returning the machine to production, and keep the old relay labelled until the first shift is complete.
