Installation & First-Run Checks

1. Power down the machine, lift the feeder out of its lane and set it on a clean bench.
2. Photograph the connector route, gear position and mounting screws before you disturb anything, so the feeder goes back together the same way.
3. Unplug the cable from the feeder board and release the motor from its mounting points.
4. Seat the replacement motor on the original fixing points, align the gear as it was set on the old unit, and push the connector home until it latches. Because the layout follows the original design, most SMT pick and place machine manufacturers handle this as a bench swap rather than a feeder rebuild.
5. Refit the feeder, run a test feed with a scrap length of tape and check that it advances smoothly without slipping or stalling.
6. Confirm pickup alignment and feed timing on the first production run, then check once more at the end of the shift.

Applications on the Line

• High-volume production shifts. On a line running at rate, a fresh pocket has to be presented for every head cycle, so the drive stays in near-continuous motion from the start of the shift to the end.
• Dense boards with very small components. Tight placement windows leave little tolerance for tape shift, and accurate indexing is what keeps the nozzle picking from the centre of the pocket rather than the edge.
• Multi-lane feeder banks. A machine draws from several feeders at once, and one lane that feeds late or stalls will hold up the head, so each drive has to index in step with the rest.
• Planned maintenance stops. Maintenance teams fit a replacement during a scheduled service window instead of waiting for a drive failure to stop the line mid-shift.
